week 12

Hey Jenna,
So today is our last day and our presentations have been out in full force.
They were really great even though we had a mishap on mine with the projector it was still good movie i think.
I have learnt a lot of the semester and my five pieces of work i think really high light where i have come from.
* my postcard- of my friend Janea which was black and white with text and very barbra kruger inspired was one of my first pieces of work
* My canvas self portrait which is something i really like as it was very magical and just came up really good and i really like it because its a self portrait but it doesn't quite look like me
* My fan which is black and red with black feathers and the image of janea again and her legs and body at the bottom of the fan look like they are fanning out too.
* lastly my two videos of the same earth song dance which played together one filmed in a studio and the other outside int he car park whilst it was raining.
This was too show the feeling of a dancer would do anything to dance.
The presentations have been fantastic everyone has had some really different ideas from dance, mask, self obessed and even nature.
This class has taught me alot and i have really enjoyed using the different programs even though i had moments of hating on the computer and modern technology.
Have a nice and safe break jenna!

week eleven

Hey Jenna,

So today's class left me loving and hating on final cut pro.
This week my videos of the girls dancing outside and inside are finally on the computer with no deleting from my dad. They just worked and it was time for me to opening up final cut pro and get serious about this editing business.
So at first i was editing and nothing was going the way i wanted it was not rendering and i couldn't watch it. So after opening a new project 6 or 7 times i took a break watched jackies presentation and finally got to it.
After playing the video.
working out exactly what i wanted to do i was finally able to learn to love final cut pro.
It is a little fiddly trying to get my cube effect to turn as the girls turned it took a lot of stop start and the annyoing thing with final cut pro is you have render everything before you can watch it so even if you change your mind you can't see it until it has been rendered. Which i found to be soooo annoying.
It also took so effort cutting the videos to get them to be in sync as a car was coming and the girls nearly got run over, i hand to cut and sync the video so it looked like the dance continued with out stopping.
so hopefully i can have this work done by the end of the week
because i plan to show both pieces side by side each other in contrast of day and night!
have a good one Jenna

week ten

Hey Jenna,
In todays lesson it was all about video.
Although the videos at the start of the lessons, on the lecture were very weird, quite strange and I did not get the message about life in the 5 cycle piece. They were still good and well constructed.

My videos have had some dramas with them, as my dad accicdently deleted them off the camera. He was able to recover them from the camera but for some unknown reason they were not reading on the mac, so Jenna gave me a lesson on how to use final cut pro as i have this program at home and i will hopefully be able to edit them at home.

So this lesson using what video i have i have sat and played on the program learning how to use, i have used it before in high school so it was not to bad just needed a refresher lesson.

I plan to not be in my dance piece and have the girls do my piece in the studio and then have them do it again out in the car park. When presenting my piece i plan to have both playing at the same time. Showing a contrast between day and night. I plan on filming this on thursday and i plan to do some research on video art and in particular video art using dancers if i can find anything to get some new ideas.
I may have the girls do it at dfferent times, coming together at the chorus.

This final cu pro program is a little bit getting on my nerves because of the time it takes to render.
but hopefully it all works how i ahve planned.

have a good one

week eight

Hey Jenna,
So after a long two week break, which wasn't really a break as I was on teaching rounds. We are back into the swing of things at uni and in art class.
Todays class was all about video,
We were really lucky to have a presentation today that had a piece of work which was very old world old filmed it reminded me of a salv dore dali piece which was at his exhibition last year.
This was a good lead into our new topic of video digital art.
I unfortunately didn't read the unit guide and forgot to bring a dvd tape so i was not able to record anything but i was able to have play with the camera to see how it worked and what effects are on most cameras.
I am thinking from the videos we watched to day in class has given me the idea that video art does not have to make sense and does not have to a clear idea thrust upon the viewer.
I am thinking i will recored my feet pointing and stretched in bare foot and rising on to my toes and then film it with pointe shoes so i can bring that to class next week.
I also think it would be a cool idea to have one of my tiny tots feet be filmed so you can the the growth from first starting to when your a senior ballet dancer.
I drew out some ideas of where this could be taken i was thinking i would do int he dance studio and i need to decide whether or not to have music.
Have a great week!

Week Seven

Hey Jenna,
So today's class we used the stylist pad once again, and yet again at first it was SO incredibly hard to get used to, but once you reliased you weren't using the mouse any more and the stylist was now your mouse.
Today in Corel Painter we looked at cloning an image.
This was a fantastic tool. This tool allowed us to have an image and like tracing paper go over the image on a blank page letting us leaving in and take out bits of the image.
I continued to work on one of the pictures of myself outside, and i traced the image and made it looked distorted then using text which i am loving through out my pieces . I have distorted this picture and cloned it, it is a photo of myself outside and i am really liking it but i am unsure how and if it will be one of my finals.
Although corel painter is a great program i am finding using photo shop a lot easier to use just because i am more comfortable with it.
We also looked at art briefly as a moving image. This was very cool to look and fun, although i only had a quick play with it, it was fun to watch the image move. And because i am doing dance as my theme i am thinking i will need to have a moving image, i am just unsure of what i want to do.
We also watched people presentations today and i really loved Georgia's pop art piece, it was really good to see the same image move through and change, this was an image you needed to be close to, to really appeciate it.
Hope you have a great week

Week Six

Hey Jenna,
As you would of noticed i did not post a blog for last week because i was at a funeral.
But im here this week.
Today we played on Corel Painter, we used the pad and stylist today to help create art works.
It was good fun to see all the cool things that can be produced on corel painter. Although at first using the stylist instead if a mouse was very frustrating and took a lot of time to get used to it, at the moment it seems to be going my way.

During this class i sat and brain stormed what i could do with the photos i had taken over the week break of myself and others for my final pieces.
One idea that sprung to mind was to use a out door picture and edit it in a way so it way so it would look darkened or close to black and white with splashes of colour through out it. I then want to stretch it over canvas and place tule over the top, as i could not get a photo image printed onto a tutu.

I also plan to do a picture to be super imposed over another so by doing layering on photoshop.
I have a website which you gave to look at on how to do that becuase i was not here last week.
http://stunik.com/vu/2010/layermask/layermasks.html
This tutorial will help me to learn how to mask over pictures so i can have that superimposed image of the muscles working through.
Also when i go home i plan to add some of my favorite pictures i took from the day of shooting to help give you an idea of the look i am going for and the theme that is running through out my pieces which is DANCE :)

bye for now

week four

Hey Jenna,

In todays class we looked at photo art.
This was very interesting we went in to the film studio and had play in there, from going in here i was inspired to do...maybe a modern take on maria in west side story...when she is on the ladder singing. but i am unsure at the moment.

in the film studio i took advantage of getting the girls to take photos of me doing some simple ballet moves as dance is my theme throughout.

We then went and had a play in photo shop this was a little challenging as i know i can do lots in photo shop i just forgot what and how to do it since i had not had a play on it in ages lol
i used a picture of my self and chopped it and then pasted it over an other photo to look as if the top half of body is flying.
Im looking forward to doing collage next week as i know i will be able to crop and paste many of my photos of ballet to maybe create the ballet shoe

so im off to go practice photo shop a little more and take some more amazing photos of dancing :)

bye for now
